Proverbs 10:22 is one of those lines of Scripture whose Pardes levels (Peshat → Remez → Derash → Sod → Sod-ha-Sod) reveal astonishing wisdom.

“The blessing (favor) of the LORD, it makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”
— Proverbs 10:22

In Hebrew:

בִּרְכַּת יְהוָה הִיא תַעֲשִׁיר
וְלֹא יֹסִף עֶצֶב עִמָּהּ

Birkat YHWH hi ta’ashir, v’lo yosif etzev imah.

Let us explore this through the deepest mystical and cruciform understanding.

1. Peshat – The Simple Meaning

At the surface level the verse means:

True prosperity comes from God and does not produce misery.

Human wealth often comes with:

  • anxiety
  • corruption
  • oppression
  • spiritual emptiness

But divine blessing produces:

  • peace
  • wholeness
  • righteousness

Already this contrasts two economies:

  1. Human striving
  2. Divine favor

2. The Hidden Word: “Blessing” (Berakhah)

The verse begins with:

Birkat YHWH

The word ברכה (Berakhah) does not simply mean blessing.

Its root ברך (BRK) also means:

  • to kneel
  • to draw down
  • to channel divine flow

In ancient Hebrew imagery, a blessing is a channel from heaven to earth.

Thus the verse could be read mystically as:

“The channel of YHWH draws down abundance.”

The righteous do not manufacture wealth.

They become conduits of divine flow.

3. The Mystery of “Rich”

The Hebrew word:

תעשיר (Ta’ashir)

comes from עשר (Osher).

This word does not merely mean money.

In Hebrew wisdom it means:

  • fullness
  • abundance
  • increase
  • flourishing

Thus the verse does not say:

“God makes people wealthy.”

It says:

God causes life to overflow.

This can include:

  • wisdom
  • peace
  • revelation
  • provision
  • influence
  • spiritual authority

4. The Strange Word: “Sorrow”

The final line says:

“He adds no sorrow.”

The Hebrew word:

עצב (Etzev)

is extremely important.

It appears earlier in Genesis.

“In sorrow (etzev) you shall eat of the ground.”
— Genesis 3:17

This is the curse of Adam.

Etzev means:

  • pain
  • toil
  • anxiety
  • grinding labor

Thus Proverbs 10:22 is secretly saying:

The blessing of YHWH operates outside the curse of Adam.

Human striving produces Genesis 3 labor.

Divine blessing produces Edenic abundance.

5. Sod – The Two Economies of the World

This verse reveals two systems governing human life.

The Economy of the Fall

Genesis 3:

  • toil
  • sweat
  • striving
  • survival

Human civilization mostly operates here.

The Economy of the Kingdom

When divine blessing flows:

  • provision multiplies
  • favor appears
  • doors open
  • peace remains

This is the economy of heaven.

6. Sod-ha-Sod – The Cruciform Secret

Now we go deeper.

The deepest secret is that this blessing flows only through the Cross.

Why?

Because the Cross removes the curse of Adam.

Paul writes:

“Christ redeemed us from the curse.”
— Galatians 3:13

The curse of Adam was etzev.

Toil.

Sorrow.

Striving.

But when a person is crucified with Christ, they exit the Adamic economy.

They enter the Kingdom economy.

Thus Proverbs 10:22 becomes a Messianic prophecy.

The blessing that makes rich without sorrow is the life of Messiah flowing through the believer.

7. The Eden Restoration

In Eden, Adam did not labor for survival.

Provision flowed naturally from the garden.

That is why Jesus said:

“Seek first the Kingdom… and all these things shall be added.”
— Matthew 6:33

The Kingdom restores the Eden pattern.

Provision follows righteousness.

8. The River of Blessing

Mystically, Berakhah is also connected to flowing water.

The righteous become like:

“A tree planted by rivers of water.”
— Psalm 1:3

The blessing of YHWH is a river flowing through a person’s life.

When the river flows:

  • provision appears
  • influence multiplies
  • life flourishes

And there is no sorrow attached to it.

9. The Test of True Blessing

This verse also gives a powerful discernment test.

If prosperity produces:

  • anxiety
  • corruption
  • stress
  • spiritual dryness

It is not Birkat YHWH.

True blessing always produces:

  • peace
  • righteousness
  • joy

As Paul wrote:

“The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
— Romans 14:17

10. The Final Secret

The deepest mystery is this:

The blessing of God does not merely give riches.

It transforms the person into a source of blessing.

The righteous become like Abraham.

“You shall be a blessing.”
— Genesis 12:2

They become a fountain of divine provision for others.

Thus the true richness is not possession.

It is participation in the flow of God’s life.
