Wormwood Wine of the Serpent: The Fall of Adam, Alcohol, and the Destruction of Divine Purpose
Abstract
This paper reveals the secret origin of alcohol as taught by Samael to Eve, leading to Adam’s fall according to the Holy Zohar, and confirms it with the ancient testimony of 1 Enoch concerning the fallen angels who instructed humanity in fermentation. Alcohol is presented not merely as a physical poison, but as a spiritual contagion, symbolized in the Book of Revelation by the star Wormwood—a bitter judgment that causes the spiritual death of one-third of mankind. The paper explores how fermented Binah became corrupted and descended into the lower worlds, causing intoxication, perversion of understanding, and annihilation of purpose for billions of souls. With citations from Scripture, redacted kosher Kabbalah, and the apocryphal Enochian literature, this work calls the nations back to sobriety in the Holy Spirit and restoration of the original Edenic purpose in Christ Yehoshua.
Introduction: The Forbidden Wine of Eden
The fall of man was not merely an act of disobedience but the corruption of divine consciousness. According to the Holy Zohar, Eve was taught by Samael—the archon of death and false light—how to ferment the grapes of Eden, transforming their pure fruit into intoxicating alcohol. Adam, partaking of this unclean wine, fell from divine union into the confusion of the flesh.
This aligns with the ancient testimony of 1 Enoch 7:5–6, which records that fallen angels descended and taught men “the cutting of roots and the fermentation of plants”—initiating humanity into pharmakeia and sorcery, of which alcohol was chief. The fruit of the vine, originally holy, was transmuted into a vehicle of forgetfulness and death.
In Revelation 8:10-11, a star named Wormwood falls from heaven, poisoning a third of the waters and killing many. The interpretation offered in this paper is that Wormwood represents fallen Binah—Understanding corrupted by fermentation, intoxication, and Qlippothic inversion—spiritually slaughtering a third of humanity, estimated at over 4 billion souls since Adam.
1. The Zoharic Witness: Samael, Eve, and the Wine of Death
In the redacted mystical writings of the sages, Samael seduces Eve not only with carnal temptation but with knowledge of fermentation, transforming divine grapes into the “serpent’s wine.” Eve, deceived, gives the wine to Adam, initiating his descent from Ruach Elyon (Higher Spirit) into Ruach Tuma (Unclean Spirit).
This act parallels Genesis 9:21 where Noah, the second Adam, falls into drunkenness—again linked to the vine and nakedness, echoing Eden. The sages teach that wine opens the gates of da’at (knowledge) but when untethered from the Holy Spirit, it descends into false da’at: Qlippothic insight leading to destruction.
“Wine enters, secrets come forth.” — Ancient Hebrew Proverb
Yet the secrets released by fermented wine in the fall were not holy revelations—but dark sorceries masquerading as enlightenment.
2. 1 Enoch: The Watchers and the Corruption of the Vine
The Book of 1 Enoch, canonized in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and referenced by Jude (Jude 1:14), recounts the descent of Azazel and the Watchers, who taught humanity forbidden arts. Among these was the fermentation of fruit and intoxicants, explicitly linked with the destruction of human purpose.
“And they taught them… the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants.”
(1 Enoch 7:2)
This aligns with the modern epidemic of alcoholism, addiction, and spiritual death. What began in Eden became the foundation of pharmakeia, or sorcery (Revelation 18:23). The wine of the fallen became the blood of the harlot, staining the nations with spiritual adultery.
3. Revelation’s Wormwood: The Fermented Binah That Fell
In Revelation 8:10-11, the third trumpet sounds and a star falls from heaven. It is called Wormwood, and it poisons the waters, killing a third of mankind. Christian Kabbalah interprets this symbol through the Sefirot: Wormwood is Binah, Understanding, corrupted and fermented in the lower worlds.
Originally, Binah is the Palace of the Mother, the Holy Spirit—but when its waters are cut off from Keter (Crown), they ferment. Fermented understanding is delusion, and delusion intoxicates. This is the Wormwood that has plagued the nations since Eden: not merely alcohol, but spiritual intoxication, false religion, carnal logic, and mind-altering substances.
Billions have perished under the power of the cup of Babylon. As it is written:
“Babylon… made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”
(Revelation 14:8)
4. The Cost of the Cup: 4 Billion Souls Lost to Alcohol
From Eden to modernity, alcohol has claimed untold multitudes. From family destruction, violence, murder, suicide, spiritual dullness, and destiny loss—alcohol is Wormwood incarnate. According to global studies, alcohol contributes to more than 3 million deaths annually. Over the course of human history, conservative spiritual estimates calculate over 4 billion destinies have been obliterated by alcohol.
The wine of Eden, fermented by Samael, has become the cup of Babylon. This is the cup Christ refused to drink in Gethsemane—the counterfeit intoxication of the serpent. Instead, He drank the cup of the Father: the Spirit of Wisdom, the true Binah, and called us to do likewise:
“Do not get drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.”
(Ephesians 5:18)
Chapter 5: The Cup of Christ vs. The Cup of Samael
Two cups are presented to the soul of every human being. One is the cup of Samael, offered first in Eden and still served today by Babylon. The other is the cup of Christ, offered in Gethsemane, purchased by blood, and filled with the Holy Spirit. The eternal destinies of men hinge on which cup they choose.
The Cup of Samael: Fermented Delusion
Samael, the angel of death, offered Eve the first fermented fruit. This was not merely disobedience but an initiation into the Qlippothic vine, intoxication that derailed divine intelligence. His cup is filled with:
- Fermented Binah (Wormwood)
- Pharmakeia (sorcery)
- Forgetfulness of God
- False joy masking inner death
- The murder of spiritual destiny
This is the cup of the Great Harlot who rides the Beast:
“Having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations… and on her forehead a name: Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes.”
(Revelation 17:4–5, AMPC)
This cup has made the nations drunk (Revelation 18:3). It offers carnal escape, pseudo-wisdom, and empty freedom that leads to damnation.
The Cup of Christ: The Spirit of Holy Love
In Gethsemane, Christ faced a different cup:
“My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me… yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
(Matthew 26:39, AMPC)
This cup was filled with:
- The wine of Chesed (Lovingkindness)
- The light of Binah (True Understanding)
- The Spirit of Holiness (Ruach Hakodesh)
- The oil of joy (Isaiah 61:3)
- The new wine of the Kingdom (Matthew 26:29)
This is the cup of suffering, but also of eternal glory. Christ drank the fullness of judgment so that we may drink the cup of the Spirit:
“Take, drink; this is My blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many…”
(Matthew 26:27–28)
The Cup of Christ is the antidote to Wormwood. It is unfermented, undiluted, and burning with the fire of divine love. It awakens purpose, restores wisdom, and seals the soul in the joy of eternal life.
Two Cups: One Choice
Just as in Eden, the soul today is presented with two cups:
- Samael’s cup intoxicates and destroys.
- Christ’s cup sobers and resurrects.
Every revival, every personal breakthrough, every restoration of divine destiny begins with putting down the cup of the world and drinking deeply of the Spirit.
“Call upon Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.”
(Jeremiah 33:3)
Conclusion: Return to the Waters of Wisdom
In the Garden of Eden flowed the four rivers of Paradise. These were pure spiritual emanations of Binah—living understanding flowing from the Throne. When Eve fermented the grapes, the river became bitter. The Tree of Life was abandoned for the vine of death.
Today, Christ calls us back to the waters of life (Revelation 22:1), to drink of the Holy Spirit, not the cup of Babylon. In true Christian Kabbalah, the wine of the serpent is exchanged for the new wine of the Kingdom—not fermented, but fermented-free—the light of understanding, not the cloud of intoxication.
Let the Holy Spirit cleanse Binah, restore wisdom, and free the nations from the spell of alcohol.
