Joseph the Righteous
We all know the pit and prison part of Joseph’s tale, but let’s see why he’s at superhero-level status with all Jewish sages. The Torah, Midrash, and Talmud document all these historical details of Joseph’s ascension to power in Egypt. Why is Joseph called King amongst his brothers, and why is he the most referred-to man of righteousness in all Jewish history? Come and see.
When Joseph came to power through dream interpretation, which his own spirit had put into Pharaoh’s mind, he quickly secured his position as viceroy in supreme dominion over the Egyptians. Pharaoh commanded the nation to follow and obey Joseph in absolute obedience to his commands or be put to death. For seven years, he took all the food of the earth into Egypt. When all the world was starving, they were forced to come to Joseph in Egypt for food or die. Joseph then drained the entire world of money, selling them food. Once Joseph had all the world’s food and all the world’s money, the people continued to come to Joseph for food, but they had no money, so they sold themselves for food. Now, Joseph had all the money and food and owned all the people as his property. The next part is what is most remarkable: since Joseph owned the people, he commanded every man to be circumcised.
Joseph is considered the most righteous man to ever live by our Jewish sages because he circumcised the entire world!
The righteous who are truly like their Patriarch Joseph will do the same to all men and women’s hearts for the Lamb on the Throne!
NOTE:
All the money Joseph took in was the same money that Moses took out during the Exodus. It was Israel’s all along!
